Profile

We are seeking a highly skilled Downstream Processing researcher with a strong background in data analysis to play a key role in the product/process development of bioactive food ingredients. In addition to hands-on experience with chromatography, ion exchange, membrane separation, or thermal concentration and drying techniques, You will have a demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret experimental data to optimise processing parameters and ensure the highest standards of hygienic processing and efficacy.

Key responsibilities:
  • Accurately plan, prepare, and carry out downstream processing experiments, involving a series of filtration techniques, chromatography, and spray drying, both in laboratory and pilot-scale environments of up to 50 to 100 litres;
  • Aid product development by replicating technical and food-grade product samples at laboratory and pilot scales;
  • Plan and conduct laboratory-scale experiments based on technical hypotheses, analyse the collected data, and produce comprehensive reports;
  • Utilise advanced data analysis techniques to interpret chromatographic profiles, ion exchange behaviour, membrane performance, and drying characteristics;
  • Collaborate closely with scientist and experts to design experiments, collect data, and analyse results to optimise processing parameters and ingredient functionality;
  • Take lab ownership and maintain downstream processing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate has a BSc. or MSc. with 5 -7 years of experience in downstream bioprocessing preferably in food. Experience with handling fermentation broths, mechanical construction of ideal downstream processing set-up, data analysis and interpretation is needed. You have strong understanding of membrane separation, chromatography, ion exchange, food ingredient formulations and drying principles and related techniques. Additionally, you are familiar with hygienic food production to formulate food grade customer samples, experience with working in a regulated manufacturing environment.
