Floris Hout: CLS operates differently from the average recruitment agency
"When I have a job vacancy, I would like to see a few CVs from strong candidates. From there, I decide who I want to interview. That is exactly how CLS operates. After visiting our office to get a feel for the environment and asking questions, they understand what I need. They then very selectively present 1 to 3 CVs of candidates who truly fit the role. It is an efficient and pleasant way of working: we are happy, and so are they."
Recruitment with a human-centered approach
Five years ago, Floris Hout was Head of the Laboratory at Jansen in Leiden. He first came into contact with CLS when he was looking for an analyst. This turned out to be a unique process, as the candidate eventually had to take a prolonged leave of absence. Floris explains: "That is an unfortunate situation for everyone, but most of all for the individual involved. René and I worked together to find a solution. Within Jansen, I was able to create a reintegration position, while CLS kept the candidate employed to provide them with the best possible chance of returning to work."
"To me this is a prime example of how CLS operates differently from the average recruitment agency. They take a human-centered approach. They ask themselves: ‘What is the right thing to do?’ and act accordingly, even if it comes at the expense of their own profit. Their goal is to support people, treat them fairly, and ensure they enjoy their work. This benefits not just the employee but also the employer. In turn, you gain a loyal, motivated team member."
Efficient and results-oriented recruitment
Floris continues: "With other recruitment agencies, I often receive 10+ CVs and then have to filter through them myself—sometimes without finding a single relevant candidate. This process is time-consuming and inefficient. CLS, on the other hand, asks the right questions and, with their expertise in our industry, presents only a few suitable candidates. That is exactly what you want as a manager."
"My collaboration with CLS has been excellent. We understand each other, have open and honest discussions, and always put people first. This builds long-term trust, which aligns with my own way of working. Currently, I am working in a great interim role at Rijkswaterstaat through CLS. From an employee’s perspective, I also find the collaboration highly positive. At a time when the job market is becoming increasingly transactional, CLS’s human approach is truly refreshing. They take good care of their employees and take the initiative in doing so."
A tip for candidates
Floris adds: "I have one piece of advice for candidates: be honest and do not try to present an overly polished version of yourself to CLS. They will see right through it. Be truthful about your ambitions and skills—what you can do and what you want—because that is better for the long term. Ultimately, it is about securing a job that genuinely suits you and your aspirations."
